
Danny van Leeuwen, Opa, MPH, RN, a two-legged, cisgender, old, white man of privilege living in a food oasis. Danny is known as Health Hats, with multiple sclerosis, committed to health equity and learning and sharing what works for best health. Serving people who help people by leveraging privilege and experience as a nurse, caregiver, data geek, and leader to open seats at the table of healthcare governance, design, operations, and research for under-represented and under-served communities. He’s on the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Participatory Medicine, and a patient reviewer for the British Medical Journal. Danny’s a member of the Innovation and Value Initiative, The National Academy of Medicine’s Digital Learning Collaborative, Generating Stakeholder Support and Demand for Leveraging and Sharing Data for Continuous Learning. He’s a member of the Northeast Health Information Management Systems Society, the Academy of Communication in Healthcare, and the Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine.Danny had a long career in quality management in urban and rural health systems, managed care, and behavioral health. He served as an editor of the Journal for Healthcare Quality for fifteen years.Danny plays baritone saxophone in a Latin Band in his spare time.
